We are looking for a post-doc (research senior assistant)!

We are looking for a PhD (or equivalent) in chemistry for a post-doc (research senior assistant) position to investigate phenomena of chiroptical signal enhancement toward developing bio-applications of Vibrational Optical Activity in the OPUS 19 project funded by the National Science Centre. The main tasks of a post-doc will be: preparation of samples and spectroscopic (ROA, VCD, and ECD) measurements, preprocessing and analysis of spectroscopic data including quantum-chemical calculations, supervising students, and taking part in the dissemination of project’s results (writing publications, preparing presentations, etc.).

Two PhD student open positions!

We are looking for two highly motivated PhD students in chemistry for studies at the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences. Candidates will investigate the topics of signal amplification and chirality transfer as a part of the OPUS 19 project entitled “A superefficient molecular nanoantenna for chirality transfer to environment studied using vibrational optical activity (VOA)”, funded by the National Science Centre.

Both positions are available in the Chiroptical Spectroscopy Group of Prof. Agnieszka Kaczor at the Faculty of Chemistry, Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. Our team’s current scientific interests oscillate around studying chiral supramolecules to better understand the aspects of amplification and chirality transfer phenomenon using chiroptical methods, in particular Raman Optical Activity (ROA) and Vibrational Circular Dichroism (VCD).

The research tasks for candidates will be the preparation and precise modifications of various supramolecular systems to explore and understand phenomena of amplification and induction of chirality in studied systems. For this purpose, the multiparameter approach is going to be applied to analyze the chiroptical properties of studied supramolecular units based on key chiroptical methods, i.e. VCD, ROA and ECD supported by quantum-chemical computations.

Candidates will be assigned to preparation of samples and spectroscopic (ROA, VCD, and ECD) measurements, preprocessing and analysis of spectroscopic data including quantum-chemical calculations, and taking part in the dissemination of the project’s results (writing publications, preparing presentations, etc.).

MEASUREMENTS ON REQUEST

Chiroptical techniques are increasingly used to study the purity and structure of drugs, the way drugs are bind to proteins, as well as pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies. Combined with routine quantum-chemical calculations, these methods are particularly suited for determining the absolute configuration as they are often more sensitive and do not require derivatization nor using additional chemical reagents compared to the current gold standards (NMR and chromatographic techniques). It should be stressed that chiroptical methods are the only direct techniques for determining the absolute configuration and the enantiomeric excess in solutions. We offer expertise in vibrational chiroptical spectroscopy, an ideal conformation-sensitive tool to study the absolute configuration, enantiomeric excess and the molecular structure in general.
